PORT ELIZABETH, In an alarming revelation, an organized syndicate has been exposed for extorting money from new asylum seekers IN KORSTEN, PORT ELIZABETH. These individuals, desperate for a fresh start and protection, have fallen victim to so called community leaders who claims to work in collaboration with the Refugee Reception Office (RRO). Each asylum seeker is charged a hefty sum of R3000 under the false pretense of facilitating their documentation and asylum processes.

Deceived and left with limited options, these young Somalians unsuspecting newcomers have been pushed to the brink of financial ruin. Many of them arrive in South Africa with scarce resources, having invested all they had in the hope of a better life. However, the little of money they possess is often stolen by unscrupulous middlemen who falsely proclaim connections to the RRO's office.

The exploitation of vulnerable asylum seekers highlights the urgent need for intervention by the South African government. With the RRO's office being implicated in this scheme, it is clear that a comprehensive investigation is required to restore trust and safeguard the rights of those seeking asylum in the country.

The extent of corruption involved in this racket is deeply troubling. The community leaders, once seen as a symbol of hope and leadership, has turned into a manipulative figure taking advantage of the desperation of others. It is imperative that law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities swiftly address this issue to protect the rights and dignity of asylum seekers.

The South African government must take a strong stand and ensure that those responsible for this extortion scheme face the full force of the law. Additionally, efforts should be made to improve the transparency and accountability within the asylum application process, guaranteeing that genuine asylum seekers receive the necessary support and protection they deserve.

The Refugee and  human rights office in PORT ELIZABETH and Home affair department should also join forces in order to effectively combat this grave issue.

By shedding light on these exploitative practices and advocating for change, a united front can work towards dismantling those greedy midllemen and exploitation network and creating a safer and more transparent asylum process FOR THE NEW-COMERS where they will have no disrutive elements.

Misunderstanding Between Somalis and South Africans Over the Use of the Coat of Arms and the Chairperson Election.

Misunderstanding Between Somalis and South Africans Over the Use of the Coat of Arms and the Chairperson Election. Written by: Mohamed Kosow Salat In Johannesburg two days ago there was an election in the Somali community to elect a new community chairperson. Many South Africans misunderstood the event and thought that the Somali community was crowning a king in South Africa.  Some believed that this was against the South African Constitution as foreign nationals may not establish traditional leadership structures in the country. The controversy was heightened when the event’s organizers used the South African flag and the national Coat of Arms on posters and event material. This sparked a huge debate on social media platforms, especially TikTok where many people criticized the event and asked why South African national symbols were being used. Tensions boiled over as anti-migrant groups, particularly those targeting African migrants, gathered outside the Somali embassy in P...

Operation Dudula: A Threat to Stability and South Africa's International Image.

Written and prepared by:     Mohamed kosow Salat . South Africa, known as the rainbow nation, has always been a symbol of multiculturalism and diversity. However, a dark cloud has recently emerged in the form of Operation Dudula, an anti-migrant group that is causing havoc and tarnishing the nation's reputation on the international stage. Their actions not only ignite violence and breed hatred but also falsely lay blame on African immigrants for the country's economic challenges, making them a significant threat to South Africa's stability.       Violence and Intolerance: Operation Dudula has gained notoriety for their frequent raids on businesses owned by foreign nationals, forcing these establishments to close. This alarming trend not only disrupts the livelihoods of innocent migrants but also fuels an environment of fear and insecurity. Violence begets violence, and the actions of this group are inciting hostilities between African immigrants and...

White Flight or Preferential Refuge? The Controversial Exodus of Afrikaners to America

Written by Mohamed Kosow Salat  A group of white South Africans, recently granted special refugee status by the Trump administration, left OR Tambo International Airport last night. The South African government has pushed back on their claims, saying these individuals don't qualify as refugees. According to international standards, refugee status is reserved for people who are forced to flee their home country due to a well-founded fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political beliefs, or association with a particular social group. However, members of this group—many of them Boers—say they’ve been living under constant threat. They point to a rise in violent farm attacks, sexual assaults, and a growing sense of insecurity as the reasons behind their decision to leave. What’s raised eyebrows is the Trump administration’s decision to make an exception for them, despite its otherwise tough stance on immigration. In the same period, the U.S. restricted refug...
